What to include in your sales executive CV
Set the commercial context before the result
Name the type of product or service, the customer segment and the stages you handled. An inbound retail sale, a B2B subscription and a long procurement process are different settings. Alex’s profile makes the workplace-training service and small-business audience explicit. Explain your own market without revealing confidential customer names or presenting yourself as the owner of an entire sales cycle you only supported.
Define target achievement so the figure means something
If you use attainment, give the period and state the relevant basis: for example signed bookings rather than recognised revenue. Keep new business, renewals and expansion distinct where that matters. Clarify whether a result was individual or shared, and whether cancellations were excluded. The sample’s 104% figure is fictional; use a number only when you can substantiate its target, calculation and attribution.
Show qualification and discovery, not activity alone
Calls and meetings can show effort, but they do not automatically demonstrate a useful sales outcome. Describe how you established need, checked the fit, identified the next decision or agreed a follow-up. If you include conversion, define the stages and period rather than presenting an unexplained percentage. A clear example of a well-qualified opportunity is useful even when you cannot publish commercial figures.
Describe CRM discipline without claiming ownership you did not have
Explain how you maintained opportunity notes, next actions, stage changes or handover records. Using pipeline reports is different from owning a forecast or administering the CRM. In Alex’s earlier development role, booked meetings are explicitly separate from opportunities the sales team accepted. Keep those distinctions in your own CV so the reader can assess both your contribution and the reliability of the records behind it.
Include the handover after the agreement
A sales role can involve checking scope, confirming delivery assumptions and making sure promises reach the team providing the service. Show how you recorded customer requirements and coordinated next steps. Avoid presenting unrealistic commitments as a strength. This sample describes checking with delivery colleagues before promising dates and gives a specific internal handover project as evidence of working across teams.
Match seniority with the work you can demonstrate
For an early sales role, use truthful evidence of prospect research, customer conversations, qualification or appointment setting. Do not claim the revenue from a deal simply because you first contacted the customer. For a more senior role, explain account strategy, negotiation responsibility or coaching only where it was actually yours. Keep earlier experience concise and make relevant outcomes easier to find than broad claims about being a natural salesperson.
A BULLET WITH A REASON TO BE THERE
Turn a vague responsibility into evidence
Exceeded sales targets and generated a lot of revenue.
Achieved 104% of the 2025 new-business bookings target; CRM records excluded cancelled agreements.
The stronger fictional bullet states a period, a target basis and a cancellation boundary. It describes bookings, not a claim about when revenue was recognised. Replace the number and context with verified information from your own work; if those figures are confidential, describe a specific contribution without publishing them.
Common sales executive CV mistakes
- Reporting a target percentage without context
- State the period, basis and whether the result is individual or shared. A percentage by itself does not explain the size or type of responsibility.
- Mixing sourced opportunities with closed business
- Separate researching a lead, arranging a meeting, creating an accepted opportunity and negotiating a signed agreement. Attribute the stage you actually handled.
- Treating a CRM tool name as the whole skill
- Describe useful records, follow-up or reports you maintained. Do not claim forecast ownership or system administration if your role was everyday CRM use.
- Publishing confidential account information
- Use a safe description of the customer segment and contribution. Do not expose customer lists, private contract terms or commercially sensitive data.
Before you send your CV
- Identify the product, customer segment and sales stages you handled.
- Check the basis, period and attribution of every target or conversion figure.
- Keep bookings, revenue, renewals and pipeline measures distinct.
- Explain your own contribution to qualification, negotiation and handover.
- Remove confidential customer names and contract information.
- Replace all fictional achievements and check the complete PDF before applying.
Sales executive CV: useful answers
What if my sales figures are confidential?
Do not publish information you are not authorised to share. Describe a concrete contribution, process improvement or type of responsibility at an appropriate level, without inventing a percentage to replace the confidential number.
Should I include target attainment on a sales CV?
It can be useful when it is accurate, relevant and shareable. Give the period and basis, distinguish individual and team results, and avoid mixing bookings, pipeline and revenue.
How should an SDR describe results?
Describe the stage you owned, such as research, qualification or accepted opportunities. Keep booked appointments separate from later closed business unless you can accurately explain your responsibility for that outcome.
Do I need to name my CRM?
Name a relevant CRM you have used, then show the practical work behind it. Useful opportunity notes, next-step tracking and clear handovers are more informative than a tool name on its own.
Is this sales executive CV free to use?
Yes. Focus is a free layout and guest PDF download is available without signing in. Saving to an account follows your plan’s allowance, and the editor protects an occupied draft with a replacement confirmation.
