ABOUT THIS FREE TOOL
How to compress your images
Make image files easier to share with a private, browser-based image compressor. Choose your output format, quality and longest edge, inspect a before-and-after preview, and download a single image or your whole batch as a ZIP.
Choose or drop still JPEG, PNG or WebP images. Add up to 20 files, with a 10 MB and 16 megapixel limit per image and an 80 MB input batch limit.
Choose WebP, JPEG or PNG, set quality where supported, and optionally reduce the longest edge. Apply new settings to update existing results.
Drag the comparison line to inspect the result. Review file sizes, then download an image or a ZIP of successful outputs.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Image Compressor: useful answers
Are my images uploaded to Handyfolio?
No. Processing happens in this browser tab. Handyfolio does not upload or save your images. Download the results before closing or reloading the page, because batches are not saved.
Which image formats can I compress?
Still JPEG, PNG and WebP inputs are supported. Choose WebP, JPEG or PNG as the output, subject to browser encoding support. SVG, GIF, HEIC, animated PNG and animated WebP are not supported.
Why is my compressed image larger?
Changing formats can produce a larger file, especially when converting a compact JPEG into PNG. PNG ignores the quality setting; use WebP or JPEG for adjustable lossy compression. If the format and dimensions are unchanged and re-encoding would not reduce size, the tool keeps the original and labels it clearly.
Will transparency and image metadata be preserved?
WebP and PNG preserve transparency. JPEG fills transparent areas with white. Re-encoded outputs do not carry over original EXIF metadata, though browsers can add their own encoding metadata. If the original file is kept because it is already smaller, its metadata remains.
Can I resize images and download them in a batch?
Yes. Choose a longest-edge limit to reduce dimensions while preserving proportions. Smaller images are never enlarged. Successful results can be downloaded individually or as a ZIP with unique filenames. The batch is limited to 80 MB of outputs as well as 80 MB of inputs.
Does compression keep exactly the same quality?
JPEG and WebP quality settings can discard visual detail. Use the comparison slider to judge your result. PNG output keeps the rendered pixels at the chosen dimensions, but resizing changes pixels, and browser decoding or color handling can affect the output.
