COVER LETTER MAKER / A PRACTICAL GUIDE

Write a cover letter with something specific to say

A practical structure for a focused opening, a convincing example and a useful closing.

Explain why this role

Name the role and the organisation in your opening. Connect one concrete part of the work to your experience or interests. Avoid an opening that could be sent unchanged to every employer. Check the person’s name before using it; Dear Hiring Manager is a reasonable fallback.

Choose one or two examples

Use the main letter to explain how you worked, what changed and why it matters for this role. Add context that the CV cannot communicate on its own. A short story about a relevant contribution is more useful than a list of adjectives. Do not invent figures or experience to match a job description.

Finish with a clear next step

Close with your interest in discussing the role and thank the reader. Aim for one focused page unless the employer requests otherwise. Match your CV’s colour and paper size. In My CVs, Create matching cover letter can copy contact and job details; you still write the letter yourself.

An example to work from

I am applying for the Customer Success role at Example Studio. In my current role, I turn recurring customer questions into clearer onboarding materials. Your focus on helping small teams get started is work I would be interested in contributing to.

For example, I worked with support colleagues to simplify our setup guide after reviewing common questions. I would bring the same habit of listening, writing clearly and testing improvements to your team.

Before you finish

Replace Example Studio and the sample experience, check the recipient and role, remove repetition and read the downloaded PDF before sending.
